BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Degree Description
The Bachelor of Science in Strategic Management of Information Systems (BS-SMIS) is a 44-credit, upper-division, academic program designed for adult learners who wish to relate their practical, technical career experience to business and management theory. The program emphasizes the strategies involved in managing technology and the information it generates. The program includes courses which provide a basic management foundation, including such areas as critical thinking, management and leadership, statistics, economics, and an introduction to management information systems. Courses such as project management, legal and ethical issues, and marketing provide an introduction to the general environment of information systems in business, while courses in database management, enterprise resource planning, and systems analysis and design provide a more in-depth focus on specific strategies. The core curriculum is structured so that students take one course at a time in a designated sequence. At the end of the course sequence, students are required to complete a Capstone Course which integrates material from all of the previous coursework and apply it to a real-world challenge or opportunity. A minimum of 128 undergraduate credits is required for the BS-SMIS degree.
